Living on Midland’s West Side
Where most of Midland's building since the late 1990s happened. Newer homes, sidewalks in a lot of places, and an easy drive to Loop 250 and Highway 191.
What it's like
The subdivisions people name
Grassland Estates. Custom contemporary homes built mostly in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Lots tend to sit close together, but sidewalks run throughout, which is not a given in Midland. It’s a common answer when people ask where the walkable newer neighborhoods are.
Legends Park. Built by West Texas developer Betenbough Homes starting in the early 2010s. The streets are named for baseball players, so you’ll find Nolan Ryan Drive, Gehrig Avenue and Mays Drive on the map. Brick and stone ranch homes, floor plans roughly 1,600 to 2,500 square feet, and a neighborhood park in the middle.
Polo Park. About five miles from downtown. Custom contemporary homes with brick fronts and low-pitched roofs, most with around four bedrooms and 2,500 square feet.
Greathouse. Another of the newer-build areas, on the northwest side.
What’s being built next
The Preserve at Midland is the project most likely to change the map again: a planned mixed-use development of about 175 acres on the former Nueva Vista golf course in west Midland, with restaurants, shops, more than two miles of trails, a pond and open green space, next to the planned Zoo Midland.
Schools: confirm the attendance zone for the exact address with Midland ISD or Greenwood ISD before you sign anything. Zones change as new campuses open. Our schools guide has the lay of the land.
