Midland and Odessa have more yoga and Pilates options than most people realize, from small reformer studios to community yoga classes that pop up in parks and museums. Here are the studios you’ll find around town, grouped by the kind of class you’re looking for. It’s a starting point, not a ranking.

Every studio here also has a listing in our yoga and Pilates directory, where you can see the address, website and a few tips in one place.

If You’re New to Yoga or Pilates

Walking into your first class can feel like everyone else already knows the routine. A few plain answers to the questions people ask most:

    • Mat or reformer? Mat Pilates and yoga happen on the floor on a mat. Reformer Pilates uses a machine with a sliding carriage, springs and straps that add resistance. Reformer classes are usually smaller and cost more per class. Mat classes are an easy way to try things out.
    • What should I bring? Comfortable clothes you can move in and a water bottle. Many reformer, Lagree and barre studios ask for grip socks (socks with rubber dots on the bottom), and most sell them at the front desk. Some yoga studios lend mats and props, so ask before you buy anything.
    • Look for an intro offer. Most studios on this list have something for first-timers, like a free first class, a discounted first class or a new-client pack. Check the studio’s website for the current deal.
    • Drop-in or membership? A drop-in is a single class you pay for once. Class packs and monthly memberships bring the price per class down if you go often. Some memberships have a minimum commitment, so read the terms before you sign up.
    • Get there early the first time. Plan on 10 to 15 minutes so the instructor can show you the equipment. Some studios won’t let first-timers join once class has started.

    Reformer and Classical Pilates

1J Pilates (3211 W Wadley Ave, Suite 4B) is a reformer Pilates studio in north Midland with Reform, Power, Gentle and Advanced classes, plus private and duet sessions. Classes are small, capped at around nine people, and there’s a Kids Club on site and a small boutique. Good to know: the studio locks a few minutes after class starts outside boutique hours, so be on time. See the J Pilates listing.

2Club Pilates Permian Basin (3303 N Midkiff Rd) is the local studio of the national Club Pilates brand, in north Midland. It runs 50-minute group reformer classes with eight class types across four skill levels, and offers both memberships and single drop-in classes. Good to know: new students can start with a free 30-minute intro class, and grip socks are required. See the Club Pilates listing.

3Century Pilates Midland (15 Smith Rd, in the Apex Center basement) is a classical Pilates studio in north Midland built around private one-on-one and duet training on a full set of classical equipment, including reformers, Cadillacs, Wunda chairs and barrels. It is not a group class studio. Small semi-private sessions of up to three open up once you have a foundation. Good to know: it’s by appointment only, new clients start with private sessions, and the studio says texting is the fastest way to book. See the Century Pilates listing.

Good to know: mats, blocks, straps, blankets and bolsters are free to borrow, there’s a first-class deal for newcomers, and you can book on the studio’s website or the Mindbody app. See the Midland Yoga Works listing.

5rOming Yoga (3952 E 42nd St, Suite I, in Odessa) is a community yoga studio with a long class list: Chair Yoga, Gentle Yoga, Slow Flow, Dynamic Yoga Flow, Kundalini and Yoga Strong among them. Its teachers also take classes outside the studio to parks, farmers markets and the Ellen Noël Art Museum. Good to know: Gentle Yoga and Chair Yoga are open to all levels, and the studio offers class packs as well as monthly unlimited. See the rOming Yoga listing.

    Heated and Sculpt Classes

6Axis Club (1301 N Grant Ave, Suite 100, in Odessa) is a boutique Pilates and fitness studio that combines heated mat Pilates with strength training. Align is slow and controlled mat Pilates focused on form and breath, Power and Sculpt add intensity and cardio, Train and Velocity are athletic strength and conditioning classes, and there are Pilates classes on the HEROBOARD. Good to know: you can book a free first class on the website, and Align is the gentlest place to start. See the Axis Club listing.

If you like the heat but want to go on your own schedule, HOTWORX runs infrared sauna workouts, including 30-minute hot yoga, hot Pilates and hot barre sessions led by a virtual instructor, with 24-hour access for members. There are three locations: HOTWORX Midland in the Borgata Shopping Center on Loop 250, HOTWORX Odessa (East) on Faudree Road and HOTWORX Odessa (West) on N County Road West. Each offers a free first workout during staffed hours.

    Barre and Lagree

7Pure Barre Midland (3208 N Loop 250 W, Suite 200) is the Midland studio of the national Pure Barre brand. It teaches four low-impact formats: Classic, Align for flexibility and balance, Empower with intervals, and Define with dumbbells. Classes run 45 to 50 minutes. Good to know: new clients can try a free first class or a new-client pack, and class times change, so check the online schedule. See the Pure Barre listing.

8Embody Lagree (200 Spring Park Dr, Suite 108, in Ally Village) teaches Lagree on the Megaformer, a machine that looks a little like a reformer. Classes are 45-minute, high-intensity, low-impact full-body workouts that can be adjusted for different fitness levels, and private lessons are available. The studio says Lagree is faster paced than Pilates. Good to know: there’s a new-client special, grip socks are required, and first-timers should arrive 15 minutes early because they can’t join once class has started. Classes are for ages 18 and up. See the Embody Lagree listing.

9Motiv Fitness (2101 W Wadley Ave, Suite 11) mixes six formats in one studio: barre, yoga, cycle, Jump 45 on mini trampolines, Fit circuit strength and a 30/30 class that pairs cycle with barre. Most classes are 45 minutes. Good to know: check what to bring for each class. Barre needs barre socks, cycle needs cycling shoes (rentals are available), and Jump 45 and Fit need tennis shoes. See the Motiv Fitness listing.

    Something Different

10Balance Pole Fitness & Yoga Studio (2317 Field St, Suite P, in Odessa) is a movement studio for women with pole fitness, aerial silks, lyra hoop and yoga classes. It also books parties. See the Balance listing.
